Often agents are initially drawn into the Real Estate Industry because they yearn for more freedom and independence. They want to experience a better work and life balance, while also maintaining a career that allows flexibility and an income to support their family. It almost sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?
Throughout my experience working with real estate agents, I’ve often seen a familiar pattern occur over time. Many new agents will begin their real estate careers feeling energized, hopeful, and extremely committed to getting their first sale. They yearn for the thrill of negotiating their first deal, and desperately want to experience firsthand the process of navigating the entire transaction until it crosses the finish line and it’s sold! With that first sale behind them, they feel so proud of their success, also knowing that they have given 100% to their clients, and to the transaction every step of the way. They feel empowered, confidant, committed, and they crave more and so it begins…
Escrow after escrow, and their client base begins to build, and their ability to juggle them all begins to become strained and frustrating. Where did all that freedom and flexibility go?
As they begin growing their business, the amount of time they have becomes less and less. Instead of 1 client, they may be simultaneously juggling 5 now, and with the success of more business, there comes a point where the real estate agent feels overwhelmed and submerged underwater. They realize that they can’t commit 100% to every client any longer. They come to realize that they don’t have extra time to send out contracts for signatures, open new escrows, or review contract documents and keep their files organized. They don’t have the time to correct documents that aren’t complete or compliant with their brokerage or the state. They also find that they don’t have time to set up the home inspections for their buyers, much less attend them, or drop off earnest money for their clients. The time available to communicate with their clients, their ability to accept new listing appointments while also maintaining the ability to hold open houses or help a client find their dream home after showing them 8 homes (but when they see number 9 they know it’s the one) is greatly diminished. And although the agent is still committed to providing these services to their clients and they are dedicated to meeting their client’s needs, they find themselves falling short. Their ability to be “present” while managing all the stress of having so many tasks to juggle becomes a burden that is too heavy to carry. Their time has increasingly dwindled, while also becoming infinitely more precious and valuable. They want to continue to grow their business, continue to increase their earnings, while keeping the process moving forward seamlessly, organized, and efficiently. They just wish they had someone to help them….
